Del Webb at Lake Providence (DWLP) in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee contracted with Athena to evaluate a slope failure behind homes along Calibre Lane. The initial failure occurred in April 2018, and a buttress was constructed to improve stability per the recommendations of another firm. They experienced an additional failure the following spring in 2019, with additional movement continuing in to 2020. Therefore, Del Webb engaged KSWA to complete a thorough review of the Calibre Slope in the spring of 2020. As part of the review, KSWA examined the history of failures, previous remediation efforts, and proposed design of a new engineered slope. We prepared a letter report summarizing our observations of the slope during a site visit, our review of the previous design/construction, and our opinion on the cause of failure and the remediation methods recommended by others. As part of this review, KSWA performed slope stability analyses of the existing, failed slope to understand the effect of groundwater within the rock buttress slope.
