Engineering Project Manager

Athena Engineering and Environmental, LLC (Athena), headquartered just outside of Nashville, TN, is a dynamic woman-owned small business consulting firm delivering geotechnical, environmental, ecological, water resources, surveying, and value engineering services. We partner with clients nationwide across government, transportation, energy, industrial, water, and commercial sectors to solve complex infrastructure challenges.

Job Overview:

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful execution of assigned projects—ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with client expectations and Athena’s quality standards. This role provides leadership to project teams, manages client relationships, and drives overall project performance, including financial outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain overall responsibility for project execution, quality of deliverables, and performance of subconsultants.

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all phases of project delivery.

  • Prepare, review, and manage project scopes, budgets, and cost estimates.

  • Monitor project performance using key metrics (e.g., productivity, utilization, earned value) and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Oversee and review technical deliverables across multiple disciplines.

  • Manage project documentation, including staffing plans, equipment needs, schedules, and reporting requirements.

  • Develop and manage project financials, including budgets, forecasts, invoices, and change orders.

  • Prepare and/or review monthly project status reports.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring expectations are met.

  • Lead and participate in client and contractor meetings.

  • Identify and resolve project, client, and team issues proactively.

  • Mentor, supervise, and support the development of assigned staff.

  • Identify opportunities for additional work and support business development efforts.

  1. Communicate Athena’s capabilities and collaborate with clients to develop effective solutions.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Geology or Engineering (or similar).

  • 5-10 years’ experience in Environmental Engineering and/or Geology.

  • Knowledge and skill of engineering techniques, procedures and theories.

  • High degree of foresight and mature judgement in planning, organizing and directing projects.

  • Some skill and ability in personnel management and communications.

  • Ability to supervise technical work.

  • Professional licensure preferred.

  • Additional certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED AP) are a plus.

  • Strong understanding of industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

  • Experience with project management software and tools.

  • Proficient in technical writing and reporting.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current certifications as required by OSHA must be maintained including 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and 10-Hour OSHA Construction certification.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive up to 8 hours per day.
